Once populated by the Creek and Cherokee people, modern day Atlanta is one of the fastest growing areas in the United States. From the main drag on Peachtree Street and Turner Field to world famous Georgia Aquarium to the modern skyscrapers of downtown, the Atlanta skyline reflects a city on the move. Like many large cities, traffic and congestion have become issues for Atlanta and are indicative of a fast growing metropolitan center.

Rising from the ashes of the American Civil War, Atlanta has grown in every direction, including up. In spite of the tremendous increase in modern construction, Atlanta has managed to retain much of its historical architecture and charm.

The Bank of America Plaza

The most prominent feature of the Atlanta skyline is surely the Bank of America Plaza. Towering over 1000 feet above Peachtree Street, the Plaza provides over 1.2 million square feet of office and commercial space. Reflecting a bit of the same Art Deco presence of other skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building, the Bank of America Plaza is predominately a post-modernistic design. Among the thirty tallest buildings in the world, the Plaza has earned its place among America’s great skyscrapers.

The Sun Trust Plaza

The second tallest high rise building in Atlanta, Sun Trust Plaza is one of the most recognizable buildings in the city. Once referred to as One Peachtree Center, this magnificent structure rises over 870 feet above Peachtree Street. One of the many high rise buildings constructed during the 1980’s and 1990s, the building sports a unique crown that reflects a postmodern architectural style seen in many of Atlanta’s skyscrapers.

One Atlantic Center

Another member of the 800 foot club, One Atlantic Center features fifty floors that rise 820 feet above West Peachtree Street on the outskirts of downtown Atlanta. The building’s exterior is covered in pink hued Spanish granite with a beautiful copper crown. Two shorter companion buildings maintain the same post modern architectural style, creating a focal point of the Midtown Atlanta area.

Atlanta Sports Teams

Atlanta is a great market for professional sports teams. Baseball, football, basketball and even hockey all have a loyal base of fans in Atlanta. In addition to professional team sports, professional auto racing has found a home in Atlanta. Sports fans and collectors prize high quality pictures and panoramas of Atlanta sports teams.

The Atlanta Braves

The Braves once called the baseball towns of Boston and Milwaukee home until the franchise moved to Atlanta in 1966. One of the oldest franchises in professional sports, the Braves were formed in 1871 and now play in Turner Field, named after former owner and television news tycoon Ted Turner. Considered by many baseball aficionados as the team the Aaron built, the team owes a debt of gratitude to the great slugger Hank Aaron who broke records and racial barriers during the course of his stellar career.

The Atlanta Falcons

A relatively young professional franchise the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League were formed in 1966 as part of a league expansion. The team played at the Fulton County Stadium until 1991when the team moved to its new home in the Georgia Dome.

The Atlanta Motor Speedway

While not in the city limits of Atlanta, the former Atlanta International Raceway draws hundreds of thousands of race fans every year. With capacity for over 125 thousand fans the raceway features a two and half mile track, luxury condominiums with a view of the track and other popular amenities. A popular venue for non-racing events like concerts, the speedway hosts three major NASCAR events.
